Reyes Martí is the first and only woman pyrotechnic commissioned to fire the traditional Mascletá (a firework display with powerful bangers to celebrate the festivities) of Valencia City Hall.
To celebrate The International Women’s Day, every 8th March from 2004, Valencia in Fallas offers a spectacular fireworks display fired by a woman, Reyes Martí, and the call of the Falleras Mayor to start the Mascletá is: “Senyora Pirotécnic pot començar la Mascletá!” (Mrs. Pyrotechnic can start the Mascletá!)
She is an authentic pioneering woman. At first, she was an oddball but by working well she found her way in a man’s world and now everybody respects her.
She is an emblem and representative of women in this peculiar sector, the pyrotechnics, traditionally, a man sector.
